Standards Alignment Workshop: Integrating NGSS with the IB MYP

This workshop supports curriculum leaders, coordinators and teachers in strategically integrating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). Participants will explore the natural alignment between the NGSS three-dimensional learning model, encompassing disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts, and the IB’s inquiry-based, concept-driven framework. Through collaborative analysis, participants will examine how NGSS performance expectations can be embedded within MYP objectives and global contexts to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels. By the end of the session, attendees will understand the fundamentals of designing standards aligned units (storylines) that promote inquiry, conceptual understanding, and authentic engagement with real world phenomena.
