MYP | Cat 3 | Managing assessment: Arts
Course Description
This Category 3 workshop is designed for MYP Arts educators and coordinators who aim to deepen their understanding of the MYP Arts assessment model. Participants will explore the four assessment criteria (A-D) specific to Arts, and engage in hands-on activities to design concept-driven, criterion-based assessments that reflect creative inquiry and artistic processes. The workshop covers internal assessment design, moderation, and the alignment with optional external eAssessment formats. Emphasis is placed on fostering authentic student expression, reflection, and evaluation in the arts curriculum, in accordance with IB philosophy and MYP objectives.
Learning Outcome
Apply the four MYP Arts assessment criteria effectively (Knowing and Understanding, Developing Skills, Thinking Creatively, Responding).
Design rigorous, concept-based assessment tasks that promote creative inquiry and artistic reflection.
Develop and refine internal assessment practices and moderation processes to ensure consistency.
Understand the structure and expectations of external assessment options (eAssessment) in Arts, where applicable.
Support students in articulating their artistic intentions, processes, and outcomes within assessment frameworks.
Target Audience
This workshop is intended for experienced MYP Arts teachers and coordinators who are familiar with the programme and wish to strengthen their confidence, consistency, and effectiveness in designing and implementing assessment in the Arts. It is particularly relevant for educators looking to refine their assessment practices to better support student creativity, reflection, and technical skill development while contributing to department-wide and school-wide assessment alignment.
