PYP | Cat 3 | Creating a curriculum for transdisciplinary learning
Course Description
Participants will explore how to design a cohesive and engaging transdisciplinary curriculum that reflects the philosophy of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Through inquiry, collaboration, and reflective practice, educators will deepen their understanding of transdisciplinary learning as a means to foster student agency, conceptual understanding, and meaningful connections across subject areas. The workshop emphasizes the development of authentic Units of Inquiry that promote international-mindedness and respond to both local and global contexts.
Learning Outcome
Understand the role of transdisciplinary learning in the PYP and its alignment with IB values
Explore strategies for developing conceptual, student-centered Units of Inquiry
Design learning experiences that integrate subject areas through meaningful central ideas and lines of inquiry
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal articulation of the transdisciplinary curriculum
Reflect on ways to promote student agency, voice, and choice within a transdisciplinary framework
Target Audience
Primary Years Programme (PYP) homeroom teachers, subject specialists, coordinators, and school leaders who are new to or currently implementing the PYP in candidate or authorized IB World Schools.
