Co-Creating UDL: From Theory to Practice

Course Description

Every classroom has its moments—but how we respond can make all the difference. This workshop equips educators with calm, respectful, and effective techniques to de-escalate disruptive behavior without escalating conflict. Through real-life scenarios, role-play, and reflection, participants will explore the roots of student behavior and practice proactive strategies to create a more positive, supportive classroom culture. Walk away with ready-to-use tools to reduce tension, preserve relationships, and maintain a safe space for learning.

Learning Outcome

  1. Critically reflect on the theoretical foundations of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and articulate key implications for inclusive classroom practice
  2. Analyze an existing lesson to uncover potential learning barriers as opportunities to enhance accessibility, participation, and learner agency through the intentional application of UDL principles
  3. Apply the three UDL principles, multiple means of engagement, representation, and action/expression, by designing specific learning engagements that address each principle within a lesson plan
  4. Develop a personalized grade-level-specific UDL toolkit that includes at least five practical strategies or tools to integrate into daily instructional practice
