DP | Cat 3 | Biology: A focus on the experimental programme
Course Description
This workshop focuses on enhancing the role of practical work within the IB Diploma Programme Biology course.
Participants will explore how to design a balanced and effective scheme of work that integrates hands-on scientific inquiry while preparing students for internal assessment. The workshop provides opportunities to analyze student samples and build confidence in applying the internal assessment criteria. Emphasis will be placed on developing strategies to scaffold learning, support student investigation, and ensure alignment with IB assessment expectations. The workshop is suitable for both experienced and newly appointed DP Biology teachers.
Learning Outcome
Design a practical scheme of work aligned with DP Biology requirements and internal assessment expectations
Apply the internal assessment criteria accurately using a range of student samples
Develop strategies to scaffold practical work and prepare students for successful scientific investigation
