DP | Cat 3 | Physics: A focus on the experimental programme
Course Description
This Category 3 workshop is designed to strengthen DP Physics teachers’ ability to deliver a robust and purposeful experimental programme. Practical work is a key component of the DP sciences, and this workshop explores how experimentation can drive conceptual understanding, foster inquiry, and support the internal assessment process. Through collaborative discussions and analysis of student work, participants will enhance their ability to design, facilitate, and assess meaningful investigations that reflect the aims of the DP Physics curriculum.
Learning Outcome
Explore the role of practical work in developing conceptual understanding and scientific inquiry.
- Examine effective practices for designing and facilitating student investigations.
- Apply internal assessment criteria with consistency and accuracy using student samples
- Strengthen approaches to supporting academic integrity in practical work.
- Reflect on how experimental work aligns with the aims and objectives of the DP Physics course
- Enhance strategies to scaffold students’ planning, execution, and evaluation of investigations.
Target Audience
This workshop is intended for experienced DP Physics teachers who are responsible for developing and refining their school’s experimental programme. It is particularly beneficial for those looking to deepen their understanding of inquiry-based learning, improve assessment of internal investigations, and align laboratory work with the DP Physics framework.
