Culture Starts With Us: How Adult Experiences Shape the Schools We Create

Description

Participants will examine the alignment between the experiences schools seek for students and those created for adults. Through paired reflection and an organizational weak-signals activity, they will explore how adult interactions shape culture and redesign one leadership practice. Activities will be adapted and refined to the session timing and informed by current literature and research on belonging, identity and education.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain how adult experiences and behaviors shape school culture, student experiences, learning and wellbeing.

  2. Apply an identity-conscious lens to examine how power, belonging, trust and agency operate within adult professional relationships.

  3. Identify organizational weak signals that may indicate limited voice, low trust, inequity or fear of making mistakes.

  4. Evaluate everyday leadership practices and adult interactions for alignment with the experiences schools aim to create for students.

  5. Redesign one everyday adult interaction or organizational practice to strengthen trust, belonging, agency, accountability and learning.
