Understand AI, explore ethical use in education and develop pedagogical knowledge around AI.What is artificial intelligence (AI) and how can educators ethically utilize it for teaching, learning, and assessment? AI systems and tools are rapidly being deployed in schools. AI offers many potential benefits for teachers and students but also comes with the potential for harm or unintended consequences.

Learning Outcome

  1. Develop an understanding of what AI is and is not.
  2. Develop an inquiry into the role of humans in AI systems and the ethics of AI in education.
  3. Develop pedagogical knowledge around AI in teaching, learning, and assessment.

Target Audience

This workshop is recommended for all classroom educators who wish to learn about artificial intelligence (AI) in K-12 education. Previous experience with artificial intelligence (AI) in education is not required.

Elani McDonald is an experienced international educator and school leader with over 20 years of experience across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. She currently serves as Secondary School Principal at Qatar Academy Sidra, a Qatar Foundation school, where she leads teaching and learning, curriculum development, and school improvement initiatives. 

An active member of the International Baccalaureate community, Elani has served as an IB workshop leader, evaluator, programme reviewer, curriculum contributor, and senior examiner. She is passionate about concept-based learning, inquiry-driven education, and inclusive practices that ensure all learners can access, engage with, and demonstrate deep understanding.
