DP | Cat 3 | Chemistry: A focus on the experimental programme

Course Description

The workshop is suitable for experienced teachers who wish to improve their experimental programme, obtain an understanding of the moderation of the internal assessment and further integrate technology into their experimental programme. The experimental programme is a vital element of the DP chemistry course. This workshop supports participants in the development of a broad and structured experimental programme that provides opportunities for students to develop the necessary skills for success in the full range of possible types of scientific investigation.

Learning Outcome

“By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

 examine various student samples of the scientific investigation to develop a clear understanding of the application of the internal assessment criteria. Resources for all aspects of the experimental programme, including resources using technology, will be explored.

Target Audience

Experienced DP chemistry teachers and DP chemistry teachers who have completed a category 1 or 2 chemistry workshop.

Course Includes

Mirna holds a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and a High Diploma in Education from Jordanian Universities, and she has over 42 years of experience in education. Her mission is to provide quality education and equal learning opportunities for learners in her community. She believes educators are lifelong learners who continue to explore new experiences to adapt to a fast-changing world. During this journey, Mirna held several roles: chemistry teacher, head of science department, IB MYP science reference teacher, and IGCSE/A-Level and IB DP programme coordinator. Over the last 9 years of her career, she has served as head of school and head of academics in international schools. Mirna holds several roles with the International Baccalaureate as a member of the IB Educator Network (IBEN). From 2011 to 2013, she served on the IB Africa Europe Middle East (IBAEM) Diploma Review Committee (DRC)
